Death and taxes are often the cause of anguish and frustration.  Comedians and humorists frequently use both subjects although deadly serious as comedic material.  The audience will typically, because they perceive themselves far from death's bed and the threshold of the tax examiner's door, laugh and applaud as the performer delivers his humorist material.  The laughter and lighthearted feelings invoked by the comedic material will, of course, never forestall the inevitable consequences that death and taxes inflict.

The same may be stated for the past eight articles* that have appeared in this newspaper.  The articles presented a subject (globalization at the local level) to the reader that, when stated in a serious fashion, has as much appeal to the average reader as death and taxes.  The serious approach to information delivery frequently invokes feelings of despair and anxiety, thus instilling a mindset that typically stifles further education and investigation on the part of the reader.  Hopefully the humor in the recent articles dispelled some of the anxiety and despair thus encouraging the reader to realize that the transformation of society is far from a "done deal".  If everyone considered as a top priority an offensive action against globalization, the trend could be reversed.

Why is action a requirement?

Boris and Natasha - the primary characters in the preceding eight articles are fictional characters with real-life counterparts.  The counterparts are socialist planners overseeing the forging of real-life chains of slavery.  Remaining inattentive, we assure a snug fit for shackles designed for the mind, ankle and wrist.

What can be done?  - Education material.

A copious selection of short easily understood material designed to educate the reader on the subject of "sustainable development/smart growth" does not exist.  There is however one booklet prepared by "Freedom 21 Santa Cruz"1 - "Understanding Sustainable Development - Agenda 21".  The booklet is attractive and printed in full color.  It is well researched and footnoted for anyone that desires to investigate "sustainable development/smart growth".   It is recommended that you acquire multiple copies (five is the suggested minimum), then sit down in a quite secluded location and read the booklet.  As you read highlight the important passages that provide you with talking points for future visits with your pastor and elected officials.  Next highlight the same passages in the other booklets and make an appointment with your pastor and local elected officials.  During the meeting, with a winsome attitude, discuss the issue and any local happenings that may apply which help illustrate your points.  If the pastor or elected official appear attentive, ask them to read the booklet.  Over a short period of time - perhaps a week, make an appointment to return and discuss local globalization.  At the second meeting discuss a course of action perhaps:

* a sustainable educational course, from a Biblical perspective for the congregation, especially the youth, or
* develop a group of knowledgeable individuals that can and will attend the facilitated meetings, not to disrupt but to require the facilitator to define the vague terminology that pervades sustainable development/smart growth.

The latter action will, of course, not affect the facilitator; it is intended to help the audience understand what the meeting is truly about.

If the pastor or official demonstrates reluctance to your initial presentation, thank them for their time and depart.  Confrontation at this point will only make matters worse.

Making the booklet relevant to your locality

You may want to follow our example here in central Alabama.  We quoted two passages from the Shelby County Comprehensive Plan that mirrors passages in the booklet and stapled the sheet to the booklet.  Thus a booklet produced in California becomes applicable to the South.  Check your local comprehensive plan, there you will find similar passages that will bolster the creditability of your presentation.

Other educational opportunities

Begin with self-education on the principles of liberty.  As your education progresses discuss the subject with your pastor.  He, God's representative called to minister to the needs of the people, must be attentive to the subject.  If he demonstrates a reluctance to deal with such a serious subject in a meaningful way, remind him of the example recorded in First Samuel chapter eight.  There, the representatives of the people went to Samuel and complained about the graft and corruption that permeated the government.  In verse three Samuel's sons are listed as examples of governmental corruption.  The fateful decision of the religious leader and the people's representatives to disregard the proper course of action (seek God's guidance) insured governmental graft and corruption beyond their comprehension.  If your minister continues to display reluctance, make known to those that will listen within your congregation what has occurred.

An affiliation with individuals of like mind may be in order.  But, by all means continue your education on the principles of Godly liberty.  An understanding of these principles will enable you to articulate why the acceptance of "sustainable development/smart growth" principles by elected officials and the pulpit will rob society of its freedom.  A denial that change is underway by society's leaders will hastens its' destruction.

"History is important.  Why?  History is nothing less than the outworking of God's eternal decree in time.  History has a definite beginning and a definite ending.  All history is God's history.  If you want to understand the issues of today, you must grasp the issues of yesterday.  Here in America the South has always contended for righteousness and truth, why?  Why is the South known as the Bible belt?  The principles for which the South contended in 1776 and in 1861 are the same principles that are being contended for today."   ~Pastor John Weaver, History and Southern Heritage, DominionMinistry.com
